Our parents sacrificed a lot to ensure our education. We trekked miles to school, read with hurricane lamps, candles and street lights. We bought and borrowed books to read. Now there remains one question to be answered;
*Where are the graduates!?*
Newton…… if you think the governance ailing or you think things bizarre. Might even be the incessant power failure and or bad roads, collapsed buildings and many such troubling circumstances, like senseless killings, banditry, inflation and corruption. Then beat my question by pressing an answer trigger.
*Where are the graduates?*
Are they not policy makers and decision takers. Or we’ve submitted to the uneducated and illiterates and or who?
*Where are the graduates?* This was an inquisitioni I found myself standing beside the almighty main auditorium of the citadel??? of learning

University of Lagos.
*Standing like Nebuchadnezzar* who beheld the wonders of Babylon in aware and spake words that landed him in big trouble with the Almighty. I hope mine wouldn’t attract human onslaught. But wait to bear me out.
*I actually graduated from Unilag,* so standing there between the main auditorium and my department, Architecture. I couldn’t but ask.
Where are the engineers? Where are the architects? Where are the doctors? Where are the lawyers? Where are the engineers, administrators and educators
It was a long and rhetorical question for me and I couldn’t answer.
I wondered where these professionals and graduates reeled out yearly by the hundreds of higher institutions in Nigeria are.
Visit some of these institutions, they are embodiment of infrastructural decay; bad roads, outdated workshops, Zero to no libraries, decaying buildings, unplanned settlement. When you delve further you’d be shocked to meet some of the worst sets of human resources peddlers as caregivers and administrative charlatans.
Little wonder, when students graduate, they disappear into the society, because such years had been spent acquiring only certificates and near to zero human capacity development.
*Why this conclusion?* Go out there and see some of our roads like eye saw. A few years ago, I was enroute a national rout, it was like I was on a mountain climbing competition. Thank God I had changed my shock absober, if not I’d have ended in shock. And recently those who travelled return with tales of woes, from encounters with bad terrains to terrorising law enforcement agents and those who now see kidnapping as their only source of livelihood.
*Where are the graduates?* the electrical engineers. Why haven’t they found solutions to the epileptic electricity supply. What about the civil engineers, those who’d save us from potholes and poor road construction cum building collapse. What about the architects, those who’d rescue us from the shanties. Where are the lawyers, accountants, doctors and their likes? Those who spent minimum of 4 years studying and acquiring mountain top titles.
*Alas the graduates are gone,* some to greener pastures in the Americas, Europe, Arabia, Asia and the likes. While those who remained, now turned petty traders – buying and selling – in our workshops, offices and business centers. The fewer majority idling in organizations, that has zero to nothing to their professions. Counting money in banks and moving files in the big oil companies.
For those who feign busyness, social media has become a succour – the noise by some of these graduates is worrisome – thoughtless statements and speeches litter the Internet.
*FRUSTRATION OF THOSE WHO TRY TO APPLY THEIR PROFESSIONALISM*
I remember the humiliation suffered by my genius of a friend Umar (an electrical engineer) and how his innovative creation suffered death at a government parastatals. He got rejection and never went back. The helmsman, virtually told him; *”Young man, don’t waste your time. “* And that dream died.
YET AND YET STILL
These distractions and detractors in human and other forms are more distractions to the vast majority, though intelligent but would embrace the ways of the prisoners, sagging trousers and musicals the ghetto way.
Those are selling real fast, but to few and many ladies trotting around dangling nakedness, to the ravenous who’d be entertained.
Those who’d watch the C. Ronaldo would embrace sports, no thanks, very few die to not reaching the bling bling. Lies told by the media.
Thieves, branded as heroes. Unfortunately the law givers are themselves ignorant of the laws. Men who lack the mental capacity to solve basic mathematics are peddled as saviours. Who themselves are in bondage. They fail daily to see their failures because their foundation are masses of failures.
So while they are there, the society wallow in decay.
If this touches you, your feelings isn’t enough, you must attend to the call to answer – *Where are the graduates?*
This business is serious, we must make the dreams of our fathers and mothers actualised. For they wished our generation would change things. Unfortunately we’re the worst for it; stealing, we stole; cheating – we cheat, in corruption – we are robbers, in worshipping – we’ve become bigots and murderers – we murder, we hate and betray human dignity and decency – life is treated with levity.
*OUR RESPONSIBILITIES TRANSFERRED TO OUR BORN AND UNBORN CHILDREN*
Sadly we’ve shifted that responsibility to cure the terrain to our children, those who cannot lift food from the dinning table to their mouths, yes those we beg to eat. While my mother pleaded to me to eat beans, I now beg my son to eat eggs – is that not your case
